Cytokine-Rich Plasma for Bio-Enhancement

With regenerative medicine in the Greco family over 15 years, bio-enhanced skin therapy is very natural and fitting for us. We enjoy regenerative dermatology because it allows us to harness our patients’ own growth factors and natural regenerative capabilities to do the work. We have developed treatments using CRP to target the skin at the cellular level for significant improvement in photodamaged skin, hair loss, scars, stretch marks, and more. After BEST procedures, patients report that they feel refreshed, restored, and more youthful in their appearance.

What Our BEST Procedures Address

The CRP/Matrix is delivered to target tissue via injection, microneedling, or laser technology for a synergistic effect in treating a variety of conditions, including the following:

  • Photo aging
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Volume loss
  • Sagging skin
  • Large pores
  • Abnormal skin texture and tone

An Advancement in the Science of Regenerative Medicine

CRP contains optimal levels of growth factors and cytokines. It’s a highly pure grade of your own regenerative material (growth factors in plasma proteins) because the cells that aren’t needed — and may cause more inflammation — are filtered out. CRP is effective for cosmetic collagen enhancement, and hair regeneration. When combined with microneedling, results are elevated. With cytokine-rich plasma in a natural protein rich matrix, we at Greco Dermatology in Sarasota are continuing to advance the science of regenerative medicine.

The Three Main Components of CRP

The unique and natural CRP/matrix contains three main components, all autologous and derived from each patient’s own blood:

  • Growth factors with anabolic properties: The growth factors that are derived from the body’s platelets exert an anabolic and regenerative effect on the skin by stimulating enhanced growth and function of stem cells, keratinocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells. This translates to new cellular growth in the skin, collagen and elastin formation, angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation), enhanced wound healing, and repair of damaged tissue.
  • Anti-inflammatory cytokines: Through their effects on cellular signaling, the anti-inflammatory cytokines can block the harmful inflammatory molecules that are linked to premature aging and hair loss. The inflammatory blockade restores a more balanced, natural environment, stimulates hair growth, and aids in wound healing.
  • Natural protein matrix: This is the key differentiating factor with the CRP/matrix. We use a proprietary technique to create a natural protein-rich matrix to serve as a biological scaffold to concentrate the growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the target tissue at far higher levels than can be achieved without it. It provides an optimal environment for tissue remodeling and regeneration. The concentrated protein-rich matrix resides in the target tissue for long periods of time, which yields longer-lasting effects.

What to Expect During Your BEST Consultation

The best way to achieve good judgment and realistic expectations in the procedures we choose and the manner in which we deliver them starts with a consultation. During this consultation, we can get a clear understanding of your goals, develop a treatment plan, and answer any questions you have. We will take you through a detailed description of pre- and post-treatment considerations and explain whether or not your CRP procedure will be combined with another treatment such as microneedling. We will also address any concerns, and we will provide an honest evaluation of our capacity to deliver realistic and effective results.

How BEST Procedures Work

Every BEST procedure starts with your blood being drawn, usually from a vein in your arm. We will draw your blood, then place it inside a centrifuge to spin it down, which separates the CRP from the red blood cells. Removal of the red blood cells results in less pain and bruising with the procedure. The CRP that is isolated during this process contains an optimal concentration of essential growth factors in an extracellular protein matrix (or “bio-scaffolding”).

The CRP can then be directly re-introduced to treatment areas. It can be injected on its own, but we frequently combine it with other procedures such as microneedling or laser technology to target all layers of the skin at a cellular level. This combination uses multiple distinct mechanisms of action to target a variety of conditions in a safe, reproducible, and relatively quick and comfortable procedure.

We address any discomfort by using a topical anesthetic prior to the procedure. We also use distraction techniques and cold sprays to help with injection-related pain. We often finish the procedure with a period of relaxation and apply a collagen mask to the treatment area for a cool-down. Bio-enhanced topical therapy can be used to boost and maintain results following any of the BEST procedures.

Downtime and Results

Our goal is to achieve the maximum effect with minimal downtime and little chance of side effects. Because we’re using CRP, there’s enhanced wound healing. The release of the powerful growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines promotes an ideal wound healing environment that minimizes side effects and downtime.

Bruising can develop with injections, so we always take great care in the placement and number of injections we create. Ice packs can be used immediately to minimize the risks as well.

Some results may be seen relatively quickly, while others (such as newly stimulated collagen production) may take weeks to develop.
