Microblading and Shading for Eyebrows at Greco Dermatology

Eyebrow microblading and shading is a form of semi-permanent makeup. In microblading, a bladed needle is used to deposit pigmentation beneath the skin to achieve the look of natural hairs for brows that are sparse or thin. Shading may also be performed to add density and definition. Our Aesthetics Director, Vicky Greco, offers these excellent eyebrow restoration services at our Sarasota clinic.

What is Semi-permanent Makeup?

Imagine being able to cut down your everyday makeup routine because some of your “cosmetics” are already in place — or not having to check on your makeup and freshen it up throughout the day. This is the purpose of semi-permanent makeup. It’s an excellent option for those whose skin is sensitive to cosmetics, athletes who have an active lifestyle, those who are tired of their makeup fading all the time, people who may not be able to apply makeup themselves, or those who want to spend less time applying their products. In short, it’s for those who want to look their best and be ready to go at all times. Schedule a visit for microblading in Sarasota, at Greco Dermatology.

Why is it Called “Semi-permanent”?

The reason it’s only partly permanent is because many things will eventually cause your semi-permanent makeup to fade, including sun exposure, sweat, topical skin products, environmental elements, and simple aging. Typically, semi-permanent makeup lasts anywhere from 1-5 years.

Don’t think of it as a real tattoo, because tattoos are done with ink. Semi-permanent makeup utilizes pigment. We recommend getting touch-ups as needed to keep your semi-permanent makeup fresh.

Treatment Details

Microblading takes approximately two hours. Your microblading in Sarasota treatment plan will be fully customized to your specific face and natural brow patterns. To keep you comfortable, a topical numbing cream will be used. The numbing cream takes about 20 minutes to work.

Vicky will also work with you to select the best color to work with your natural hair color, as well as what will best compliment your skin. She will show you what the color will look like before it’s made semi-permanent. Together you will also map out the right eyebrow shape, symmetry, and style for your brows.

Once everything is decided, you will lie down, the area will be cleaned, she will create the measurements, and she will draw on the outline shape of the brows with a makeup pencil. The microblading process then begins using the small blade. Vicky will create fine, hairlike strokes for the outline of the brows with artistry and precision. Once this is complete, the pigment will be deposited using a pigment applicator. After the pigment has been applied, the makeup pencil outline will be removed.

This same process will be repeated for the inside of the brows, with Vicky numbing as she works.

Shading for Eyebrows

Shading is performed with either an electric or a manual needle. In this treatment, the pigment is deposited in many tiny dots along with the hairlike strokes of microblading.

Once you’re numb, you will lie down, the area will be cleaned, Vicky will create the measurements, and she will create the outline shape of the brows to help guide her. She will then begin applying the pigment, which involves the shading tool going back and forth to fill in the brows with a soft, powder-like finish. Once complete, she will wipe the skin, leaving behind the new pigment.

Many clients require two sessions to get effective results. You can have your second appointment 6-8 weeks after your initial one, as it will take this long for your eyebrows to heal.

Downtime and Results

Avoid getting your brows wet during healing, or sweating of any kind (this includes going to the gym), as well as showerhead pressure. You can expect your brows to feel sore 1-2 hours post-procedure.

By days 4-7, they may be flaky and patchy. Be sure to apply any ointment or product that we recommend. At first (around days 2-3), your eyebrows will appear to be almost too bold and dark.

The pigment will fade with healing. They will actually lighten by 50%-60%. This is why touch-ups are so often needed, and these can be done at four weeks.
