Red Light Therapy (RLT), also known as Photobiomodulation (PBM) and Low-Level Laser Light (LLLL) therapy, uses low-level red light as a proven, safe and effective therapy for individuals who are seeking hair restoration, so we’re very excited to offer this treatment at our Sarasota clinic. It can be used as a stand-alone therapy or in conjunction with any of our medical, non-surgical, or surgical hair restoration treatments.
What Happens During the Treatment?
A red light therapy treatment involves exposing your scalp to low-level red light for a certain time, typically 20-30 minutes. There is no pain during the treatment and many patients find it relaxing.
Most patients will require multiple treatment sessions to get optimal results. The number of treatments you'll need will depend on your specific cause of hair loss.
Red Light Therapy in Combination
Although red light therapy can be used independently, it's also compatible with hair loss medications such as Rogaine® (generic: minoxidil), Propecia® (generic: finasteride), oral minoxidil, and dutasteride. In addition, it is often used in conjunction with our hair transplant procedures (Bio-FUT and Bio-FUE), as red light therapy may increase the survival and healing of transplanted hair follicles.
