What is Cytokine-Rich Plasma/Matrix?

We love regenerative dermatology because it beautifully harnesses the body’s own growth factors and natural regenerative capabilities. CRP/Matrix contains optimal levels of growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines — essentially, this means a purer and more powerful grade of your own regenerative material (growth factors in plasma proteins) is used to help hair growth via scalp treatments. With CRP, Greco Dermatology is continuing to advance the science of regenerative medicine in hair restoration.

CRP/Matrix and Scalp Treatments: Conditions Treated

The CRP/Matrix is introduced to target tissue using injectable and microneedling techniques that may be combined for a synergistic effect in treating a variety of conditions, including:

  • Androgenic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss)
  • Alopecia from inflammatory conditions such as alopecia areata, lupus, and
    psoriasis

The Power of the CRP/Matrix BioScalp

Our non-surgical BioScalp treatment for hair loss aims to target the reversal of the miniaturization process seen in male and female pattern hair loss and inflammatory-induced alopecia. The concentrated growth factors in the CRP/Matrix boost cellular signaling initiate and maintain hair growth, stimulate enhanced microcirculation around the hair follicles, and along with the anti-inflammatory cytokines, reduce the inflammatory stress that can lead to the excess shedding of hair.  The goal is to stimulate hair to enter the growth phase of the hair cycle and remain there for longer durations, leading to a restoration of density and fullness to the scalp.

The Three Main Components of CRP/Matrix

The unique and natural CRP/matrix contains three main components, all autologous and derived from each patient’s own blood:

Growth factors with anabolic properties: The growth factors that are derived from the body’s platelets exert an anabolic and regenerative effect on the skin by stimulating enhanced growth and function of stem cells, keratinocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells. This translates to new cellular growth in the skin, hair regrowth, collagen and elastin formation, angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation), enhanced wound healing, and repair of damaged tissue.

Anti-inflammatory cytokines: Through their effects on cellular signaling, the anti-inflammatory cytokines can block the harmful inflammatory molecules that are linked to premature aging and hair loss. The inflammatory blockade restores a more balanced, natural environment, stimulates hair growth, and aids in wound healing.

Natural protein matrix: This is the key differentiating factor with the CRP/matrix. We use a proprietary technique to create a natural protein-rich matrix to serve as a biological scaffold to concentrate the growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the target tissue at far higher levels than can be achieved without it. It provides an optimal environment for tissue remodeling and regeneration. The concentrated protein-rich matrix resides in the target tissue for long periods of time, which yields longer-lasting effects.

Bio-FUT and Bio-FUE

CRP/Matrix is also essential to our surgical hair restoration procedures, Bio-FUT and Bio-FUE. During the procedures, the donor area of the scalp containing the hair to be transplanted (as well as the recipient area of the scalp or eyebrow to receive the transplanted hair) is treated with the CRP/matrix to provide optimal growth and wound healing conditions.

The individual follicular units are also immersed in a CRP bath during the microscopic dissection process of the hair transplant. These crucial steps ensure that all hair follicles are nourished in the natural growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines throughout the entirety of the procedure as well as the postoperative period. This provides optimal conditions with the greatest chance of survival and growth potential for the hair follicles and peak wound healing to help ensure the least perceptible scarring.
